Sanjay's political entry was planned six months ago. A Lok Sabha ticket apart, Singh has been pulling several strings for the Dutts
With the announcement of Sanjay (read: Maanayata) Dutt's candidature for the Lok Sabha from Lucknow, the actor's political aspirations came to the fore. But the groundwork for his entry began over six months ago.
Cape-d and cloaked
A source reveals that when the actor was shooting in South Africa for Chatursingh Two Star in July 2008, the Samajwadi leader had flown down specially to discuss mattersu00a0 with Dutt.
As Maanayata was also accompanying her husband at the shoot, the trio charted out their political gameplan in Cape Town.
Adds the source, "As it was a long overseas shoot, it was easy for Amar Singh and the Dutts to have discussions without being noticed. If the trio had held any talks here, it would have definitely led to speculation and eyebrows would've been raised."
Moreover, in the last couple of months, the Samajwadi leader has been bonding with the Dutts in a big way. After Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Ambani, Amar Singh has found a brand new ally in Sanjay Dutt.
Though those close to Dutt have tried to explain to him that there is no need to pursue politics as he already has the status and power as he is a big Bollywood star, he refuses to listen to advice.
It is learned that Maanayata's recent trip to Vaishnodevi ('Pray?, Play!"; HiTLIST, January 5) was arranged by Amar Singh.u00a0 Adds the source, "It was Singh who chalked out the trip and arranged for Maanayata and her friends to fly to the pilgrimage site."
The Dutts returned to Mumbai from Lucknow late on Saturday night. They had Anil Ambani's plane that ferried them to and fro one more gesture, courtesy Amar Singh.
Adds the source, "It is Maana's desire to be known as the first lady, not only of B-Town but also politics. Coincidentally, she features on Red Chillies' television show, The First Ladies with Abu-Sandeep, on NDTV Good Times this Saturday!
