Recently Dhuaaan was screened at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in front of 300 dignitaries and the President of India, along with the film's director Dr Mrunalinni Dayal, Malayalam actress Lakshmi and Amitabh Dayal.
The film inspired by a real life story deals with industrial pollution a la Julia Roberts starrer Erin Brockovich. Dr Dayal admits, "Yes, though it deals with industrial pollution like EB, it has been inspired by a incident that happened in 1989." She has previously directed Daag The Fire Within, which also starred her husband Amitabh Dayal.
Proud moment
Dayal talks about the presidential screening, "It was a very proud moment for me to be on stage with our the President. This is the first time that a film has been felicitated at the Rashtrapati Bhavan before being released. Normally, they watch films that are released, and receive recognition."
She explains why the President made an exception, "In the request I sent the President, I said that it's difficult for a woman director without any film background to stand on her own. I added that we would be highly honored if she would grace us with her presence to watch an issue-based film.
In just a few days a call came from the President's office inviting us as their guests. Dhuaan was also selected as one of the best six best Hindi films for the IFFI festival in Goa last year."
