"Just an hour outside Mumbai, there are villages with no electricity. That's shocking because we live in a capsule out here and we are unaware what's happening outside the city," says John Abraham, who was recently seen promoting a social initiative to light up villages.
John urged the crowd to cycle in order to collect energy points to donate the same amount of requisite energy to villages for the generation of electricity as part of the initiative. The actor spoke to CS about the need for saving resources today for a better tomorrow:

Stay fit, save energy
I love cycling. Plus, cycling is a great way to keep myself in good shape. And if cycling can help generate and save energy too, then what better than that! So, I would urge people to save energy in every possible way. It’s just a matter of some time till that happens. It doesn’t cost anyone anything. I try and save electricity as much as possible. That’s my dictat and the way I function in life. I enjoy that space.
Let there be equality
To grow as a country, I feel India requires education, infrastructure and power. Power is actually a part of infrastructure. I think people must get educated because we have a lot of nouveau rich people in this country and we have a lot of money, but I don’t think we have that kind of a culture. Chidambaram’s (Finance Minister of India) recent interview , he said that there are only about 42,800 people who have declared their income per annum above one crore. That’s ridiculus, it’s a joke! Why are we hiding so much? I say, let’s educate people, let’s lead a more equal life. I am not very Marxist by nature, but somewhere that Marxist philosophy does work for me where equal living is concerned. It’s a fact that corruption exists. We know it and there’s no point just harping on it without any action. I think when you are educated, you can eradicate anything and everything. And then you will have an equal society, and that’s the way forward.
All for charity
I would like to give away a lot of my clothes in my wardrobe to charity. I feel our basic requirement is two jeans and four T-shirts. We actors keep getting clothes while shooting. So, I think it’s a great idea to auction them off and raise money for charity. And that is why my style mantra is not being a brand baby. It’s just about being fit. Anything looks good on you then and you don’t even need too many clothes in your wardrobe.
