Bollywood seems to be getting into the self-regulation mode. The latest instance has the makers of the Kangna Ranaut-starrer, Revolver Rani, change her character’s name from Alka Gujjar to Alka Singh. Says Kangna, “Yes, my name in the film has been changed from Alka Gujjar to Alka Singh because of the elections. The makers don’t want to cause any trouble; they don’t want to offend the Gujjar community.” The actress has now redubbed for several scenes in the film.

Director Sai Kabir emphasises that their film has not poked fun at the Gujjar community and that it was a voluntary decision to change the character’s name. “All I can say is that it’s a political film. It is like a tamasha (circus) but it also has something to say about the sick practices of our society. It is definitely not preachy.”

The makers have also muted foul language in the film. A source close to the film says, “A lot of the abusive language in the film has been muted and in some portions, it has even been edited out.” Now some say that this was done under pressure, but we will probably know more about this closer to the film’s release. The film also stars Vir Das and is an unsual love story set against the backdrop of Indian politics.
