Pankh director Sudipto Chattopaddhay is on yet another unorthodox cinematic journey. His newu00a0 film that is set to roll in October is based on the dohas of 15th centuryu00a0 poet-saint Sant Kabir.
Bheetar Baahar Paani however, is not a bio-pic. It's a contemporary take on Kabir, and this saint-poet suffers from autism, a disorder characterised by impaired social communication, and repetitive behaviour.
Maradona Rebeillo, who played theu00a0 psychologically disturbed gender-challenged actor in Pankh, has been cast as a modern-day Kabir.
"Maradona will play an autistic orphan. The idea is to bring Kabir's immortal lines to play. His words have grown more relevant over time," says the director.u00a0
The young actor is preparing by watching Dustin Hoffman in Rainman, Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump and Shah Rukh Khan in My Name Is Khan. It's learning the dohas that's proving to be more challenging.
