What's it about: Pixar should have reasons to worry. Rival studio DreamWorks delivers an outstanding animation film that has remarkable action scenes, humorous characters, funny one-liners and did I mention, it's in 3D?

It's a simple story of what happens when a meteoroid hits an ordinary girl Susan (Reese) turning her into a 30-foot tall giant.

Later, Susan is confined in a special prison where she meets her friendly monsters a giant blue blob named B O B (Seth Rogen), Dr Cockroach (Hugh Laurie), half ape-half fish (Will Arnet), and a mammoth insect that makes strange sounds.

Together they are sent to destroy the evil alien Galaxhar (Rainn Wilson) who plans to destroy earth.

What's hot:
One look at the cast and you can't be impressed. I mean how often would you have Seth Rogen, Rainn Wilson (The Office), Kiefer Sutherland, Hugh Laurie, Reese Witherspoon and the incredible Stephen Colbert under one roof!

It's understood that the film will have breath taking visuals, but the directors use 3D to enhance each and every frame.

You can't help but fall in love with the monsters- especially B O B, who helplessly falls in love with a plate of jelly. For me, the highlight of the film was Stephen Colbert playing the President.

Somewhat reminiscent of Bush, Colbert's take on the most powerful man on earth is hilarious. Don't miss his first interaction with the alien robot, its insane!

What's not: As with every animation film, cheesy lines and caramel laced scenes can be a bad thing at times. This one too has its fair share of them which hampers the pace in the second half. But they are far and few.

What to do: Put on those glasses, bring in the popcorn forget the recession blues, and enjoy this madcap journey.
