"My ultimate goal is perfection," says ace jewellery designer Bina Goenka. Founder of her namesake brand, Bina is on a journey of evolution with her latest collection 'Tribute to Gaia'. Meant for the complete woman of today, Gaia, the Mother Earth, transcended on IIJW's ramp and brought a closure to the jewellery event with a grand finale.

Bina Goenka's stately and flamboyant jewellery pieces and the scintillating theme of the show ensured a standing ovation by all the guests present at the Grand Hyatt, that also houses the majestic brand. The avant garde designer speaks to CS about creating art that will evolve into infinity.

Exploring nature

Last year I did a piece that was so appreciated that it got me thinking. Nature is what the whole world is working on and so I decided to pay a tribute to Mother Earth. In Greek cosmology, Gaia or Mother Earth was the first Goddess to be born out of chaos through a womb that was vast and dark. In today's context, Gaia is a beautiful voluptuous woman.

The collection, which includes opulent neckpieces, earrings, rings and bracelets; stately diadems, armlets and minaudieres in various forms of tree branches, flowers, leaves, animals, birds etc, is a reflection of a Goddess in every woman. And like Mother Earth has its extreme traits like volcanoes, avalanches, turmoil and terror, it has a serene beauty that balances out every other fury. Tribute to Gaia, I will say, is one of the strongest concepts ever.u00a0

The brand Bina Goenka is synonymous to luxury and self-expression of one's inner self. The brand is looking for strong, self-made women who can conquer the world by themselves. Bina Goenka pieces are meant to go hand-in-hand with the woman and her conviction in herself. Neither can the brand or the woman overwhelm each other; their personalities have to complement.

I'm very keen on taking Bina Goenka on an international stage. Truly, that is the path my brand is on. I already have operations abroad, but I plan to take the brand to a new high. And what helps Bina Goenka create a niche is its outstanding service. Every piece that we make is like a baby. So when you buy one, we will be with you forever to take care of it. Never has a Bina Goenka piece been deconstructed.

Yes with time, you may want to change its look, and that is what my aim with Gaia is, to keep evolving. Gaia is a movement and I plan to evolve it from one generation to the next and the next; into infinity.
