Deal inked
Says a channel source, "The channel has already inked a deal for the rights of Raajneeti though the movie release date is still two months away."
Raajneeti stars Ajay Devgn, Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpai and Nana Patekar.
Last year, the channel had created a buzz after it had aired Anthony D'Souza's Blue within 45 days of its release and Rajkumar Santoshi's Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani within two months of its outing. Blue had tanked at the B-O but Ajab... which had a good run created a stir by the decision of its makers to let the channel air it within weeks.
Divided opinion
It had also led to a division among film folk who felt such a move would eat into the theatre earnings of the projects. But several were of the opinion that no film runs for more than four to five weeks even if it does well, so it is better to sell the satellite rights soon and earn the moolah.
The channel had paid Rs 4.5 crore for Ajab Prem Kiu2026, more than double of what it had doled out for Blue.
