Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, the film was based on O Henry's short story "The Last Leaf".

Initially, the period drama failed to create a buzz at the box-office but it gained momentum with time.

Ranveer, who essayed the role of a robber in the film, took to twitter to celebrate the second anniversary.

"2 Years of LOOTERA... A love story that stole my heart.. Lootera... A little gem... Heartened to see its value appreciating as time passes... #2YearsOfLootera," the actor wrote.

Ranveer, 29, mostly seen in urban and happy-go-lucky roles, surprised everyone with his controlled and calm performance in the film.

Also starring Sonakshi Sinha as a Bengali girl, the film proved her acting prowess too.

"2 years of Lootera already? Classic example of the saying 'love never dies'... Thank u all for the love that is STILL pouring in for this gem," the 28-year-old actress tweeted.

Sonakshi also thanked Motwane and co-actor Ranveer for the memorable film.

"Thank you for Lootera @VikramMotwane @RanveerOfficial @Ishikamohan @FuhSePhantom," she wrote.

Set in the era of the 1950s, "Lootera" released on July 5, 2013.
