What it's about: An aspiring actor Vikram JaySingh (Farhan Akhtar) comes from Delhi to Mumbai to make a career in films. He meets Sona Mishra (Konkona Sen Sharma), who has come to the big city from Kanpur with the same dreams of making it big. But as luck would have it, she only gets B-grade films. Film producer Rommy Rolly (Rishi Kapoor) is out with his new project with superstar Zafar Khan (Hrithik Roshan) and newbie Nikki (Isha Sharvani), a cutesy sappy daughter of an established actress of her times Neena Walia (Dimple Kapadia). It's luck or by chance that Zafar moves out of the film and Vikram bags the lead role, of course only with a sly groveling and flattering Neena's charm. In his ambitious quest, Vikram makes only one folly - of overlooking a failing relationship with girlfriend Sona, who helped pass his portfolio to the right person, which bagged him the role. Will the two get back together is a question looming large.

What's hot: The mood is picked right at the onset; with the opening credit song paying tribute by showing every uncelebrated craftsman involved in the making of the film. Very natural acting by the complete star cast, crisp editing and realistic ending deserve a mention. There are no exaggerations at any point in the film and special appearances by Aamir and Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor blend well with the script and are not just mere star add-ons. The film culminates quite pragmatically and has quite tactfully avoided any hard-hitting or corpulent scenes, which would have been quite tempting to add while showcasing struggling actors.

What's not: Zoya probably got this idea of highlighting the crucial role of fate in films, by seeing brother Farhan's career graph hitting the right spot as an actor. Also, when the climax is on Farhan and one is waiting to know what happens next in his life, the screenplay abruptly focuses on Konkana and one is left to imagine the rest.

Verdict: Applause for Zoya Akhtar for extracting good acting talents from everyone. Worth a watch!
