Actress recently held a special screening of her film for Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan
President Pranab Mukherjee rarely watches films. His busy schedule leaves him with not much time even for a special showing at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Bengali actress Rituparna Sengupta however was keen that the President view her recent Bengali film Muktodhara. Directed by Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy, the film is set in a correctional cell and takes on the subject of reforming convicts.

Rituparna who knows the President because of their Kolkata connection had put in a request for a special show for him. The actress was on cloud nine when he took time off for a special screening recently at his official residence.
The actress says, “The President told me that he does not watch films. But I was keen that he see Muktodhara. He had promised that whenever he had time off, a screening could be held for him at Rashtrapati Bhavan. So recently when he gave the green signal, we had a show for him.”
Rituparna adds, “The President was impressed with the strong social message as well as with the performances. He told me he was particularly impressed with the storyline. He also felt that I had put in a stellar performance in my role as the wife of the public prosecutor. He even thanked for showing him a good film.”
Rituparna is a well-known and award-winning Bengali film actress. She has not been as lucky in her B-Town outings and is best remembered in Chandan Arora’s Main, Meri Patni Aur Woh and in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji.
