Amid the row over Shah Rukh Khan's remarks on "extreme intolerance" in the country after which he came under attack from some sections in BJP, the Mumbai Police have beefed up the security of the Bollywood superstar.

"We have increased the security of the actor, who was already provided police security a few days back," Deputy Commissioner of Police Satyanarayan Chaudhary said.

BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya had on Tuesday triggered a controversy when he tweeted that Shah Rukh's "soul" is in Pakistan though he lives in India. His remarks came a day after the 50-year-old actor said there is "extreme intolerance" in the country.

Yesterday, controversial BJP MP Yogi Adityanath compared Shah Rukh to Pakistani terrorist Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of 26/11 Mumbai carnage and suggested he go to Pakistan.

However, later the BJP strongly disapproved of the comments, saying there cannot be any comparison between a law-abiding Indian citizen and a Pakistani terrorist, more so Khan, who is loved and respected.

BJP's ally Shiv Sena had also come out in his support, saying the superstar should not be targeted only because he is a Muslim and that the minority community in India is "tolerant".
