Gifting jewellery to Neelam Kothari Soni is a bad idea. Well, that's because she scans every piece through a designer's eyes and starts thinking of ways she could have improved it. So now, even Sameer (husband) has stopped buying her jewellery, and chooses to give her cash instead for a piece that she might like. With the festive mood setting in, Neelam talks to CS about her love for jewellery:

Put a ring on it
I like the basic, yet classic jewellery pieces. I'll go for anything that is timeless and chic. You will always see me in my solitaire earrings and ring. And how can I forget the wedding band (laughs)?
I don't think there's ever been a time when I have stepped out sans jewellery. Like every woman in this world, I love buying jewellery, but these days I'm going slow. The buying spree ended after my wedding.

What a gem!
I love the idea of being gifted jewellery, but I'm both appreciative and critical of what I get. Sameer too has learnt his lesson now and prefers to give me cash so that I can design whatever I might want to for myself.
But having said that, jewellery that is gifted always holds a sentimental place in my life. My favourite piece till date is this emerald necklace that my dad gave me at my brother's wedding 25 years ago.

Just jewellery
I've had an interest in jewellery ever since I was a small girl. Even when I was doing films, I knew that I would take on my dad's jewellery business. In my free time, I would make it a point to head to his office and watch him at work. It might be premature to say this, but even when I have my own kids, I would want them to be interested in jewellery and take the family business forward.
