Not too many people are aware of the turmoil Ishaqzaade actor Arjun Kapoor has been experiencing over the past month after the death of his mother, Mona Kapoor.

A close friend of the Kapoor family reveals, “The tragedy shattered Arjun and his sister Anshula. For the past ten years, Mona brought them up as a single parent. It was her dream to see Anshula graduate from her college in New York and Arjun make his screen debut.”
At this point, their father Boney Kapoor requested Shabana Azmi to step in and be there for the siblings through the crisis, just when the two were stepping into a decisive phase in their life.
Azmi agreed wholeheartedly. Kapoor and Azmi go back a long way. They were in the same batch in college and have remained very close friends over the years. A mutual friend of the duo says, “Shabana has been there for Boney from the time they were in college. She was part of his first production Hum Paanch, was present at Boney and Mona’s wedding and was there when their children were born too. Arjun and Anshula have virtually grown up in front of Shabana. Both Boney and Anil often turn to Shabana and her husband, Javed Akhtar, for advice.”
Last week, Azmi flew to New York to attend Anshula’s graduation. “Yes, I went to New York to be there for Anshula at Barnard College. President Barack Obama was the chief guest.”
Arjun couldn’t be there for his sister since he had to be in India for the promotions of Ishaqzaade.
A close friend of the family says that Kapoor intends to take a very keen interest in the lives of his children after his first wife’s death and has also asked wife Sridevi for support.
