Shahid Kapoor calls himself "unemployed" despite promoting one film and awaiting the release of another
Shahid Kapoor has two projects ready for the marquee his buddy choreographer Ahmed Khan's production Paathshaala releases this week followed by Parmeet Sethi's Badmaash Company early next month. With his last outing Chance Pe Dance proving to be a damp squib, the actor is hinging on these movies to put him back on track. Over the weekend, the actor was in Paathshaala promotion mode. But he prefers to say that he is doing nothing, as we ask him .

But you are in the midst of promoting Paathshaala that's work. After his split with Kareena Kapoor there was buzz in late 2007 about Shahid Kapoor and Sania Mirza being a couple after they were first spotted at a Bangalore hotel. The twosome were then together for a while and the tennis star used to even visit him on the sets. When asked about Sania (or whether he had received an invitation to her wedding to Shoaib Malik this week), Shahid says, "No comments. All that I want to say is that I wish Sania all the best."
Yes, they are planning certain things. I will be visiting my old school in New Delhi besides some other events.
You are also preparing for your father Pankaj Kapoor's project Mausam..
That will happen later. When I am not shooting I call myself unemployed.
Buzz is that you acted in Paathshaala for free because of your close association with Ahmed Khan.
I would not like to talk about it.
You consider him to be your best buddy.
Yes, we are close. I have known Ahmed Khan for years now. Our families knew each other. So we go back a long way. I remember visiting his house and watching him do breakdance in awe! He was so good at it. I used to be thoroughly impressed by his moves. Later, when I began my career, he was associated with me at every step ever since I did my music video Aakhon Mein Tera Hi Chehra, he choreographed it.
There is also speculation that your role in Paathshaala is a cameo/guest appearance.
The film is two hours long and I feature for a good hour. So that makes it a decently sized role or a cameo as said.
How was your interaction with co-star Nana Patekar? 'I wish Sania all the best'
I shot with him for two days. He is a fabulous actor. There is also Ayesha Takia there is familiarity as I have worked with her before.
How far does Paathshaala tackle the ills of the educational process?
Paathshaala takes up two to three vital issues and how it impacts the minds of the children. I essay the role of a teacher who teaches at the SVM School where the movie is set and it has children of different age groups. I am happy to do a film that is relevant and topical.
Your next Badmaash Company will also show you in another distinct role.
Both Paathshaala and Badmaash Company are diverse roles and I am glad that I had an opportunity to do them and the audience can see me in totally different light.
