City-based fashion designers give The Guide readers a peep into the hottest fashion trends this season, especially for evening wear
According to fashion designer Deepali Sontakkey, fashion is something which is ever-changing. It is something you believe in and is not based on what others are wearing. Sontakkey, who will be participating in the India Resort Fashion Week (IRFW), that starts today, shares her views about fashion. “Colours like dark green and pink will be dominating this season.

Wear their shades in velvet for the best possible effects. This will give you a rich look in the evening. Also, for evening wear, shorts, overcoats, full and half jumpsuits are equally in vogue.”
Accessorising should ideally not be on the top of your mind this season. As Sontakkaey points out, “If you are dressed perfectly then your attire will speak for itself. One does not need to wear heavy accessories to complement the dress.
A nice pair of shoes, clutch and a watch is enough to go along with your look.” u00a0For men, she feels there are a range of kurties, tuxedos and accessories available for them in the market.
Delna Poonawala, who has recently displayed her collection in the city, says, “Hats are popular for evening wear. Catlike masks and dragon flies can complete the perfect evening eye-wear. Designs in silk georgette will be in trend while colours like pink and orange will grab eyeballs.
Blocking two contrast colours in western-wear is also very much is style when colours like blue with green and yellow with silver are combined together. For that perfect winter-wear, grab something in layering or free-floating.”
According to designer Shouger Merchant Doshi of Zanaaya Couture, off-white and maroon jodhpuris with a broach on the left breast pocket with some beadwork or pearlwork make for a great look for men.
Also purple or light pink kurtas and patiala style trousers with a simple white linen kurta works great as well. They can accessorise it with a nice scarf or large buttons/ cufflinks and a great pocket scarf for a suit or jodhpuri.
For women she advises, “The cowl neck is back so any cowl neck dress or top is a nice choice. Also, sequins and florals are evergreen so don’t be afraid to sport a sequined skirt or a jacket. Draped western dresses are very much in and I think we will witness a major growth in creative draping styles in resortwear.”
