Straight from the art

An artist, an art lecturer at the College of Art in Delhi and a philosopher in the makingu00a0-- Niren Sen Gupta's depth of character reflects in his work. CS caught up with him recently at the Artchill camp in Jaipur:

Colour code

I use a lot of colour in my work. If you go to the interiors of the country, you'll be struck by the amount of colour you see around you. I'm a keen traveller and have always had an eye for colour, which is evident in my work. I also enjoy using variations of the same shade.

Brush away
I highlight relationship problems through my work. A look at a painting and you'll know if the artist is restless or at peace. Every artist has his own style, but it takes a long times to establish it. I'm an art teacher and I encourage my students to identify their own style.

India callingu00a0
India is a beautiful country, and for us art has been a part of life. From mothers creating rangoli to wives spotting mehndi on their hands, art comes very naturally to us. We're the only country where you see art in every homeu00a0-- on the wall, or the floor or a knitted sweater. Art is within us.
