We always spot this real estate baron in a suit, so catching him in a floral brown shirt and jeans at a recent fashion event was a pleasant surprise. And since the man was also seen inaugurating a men's formal wear retail store in Powai last weekend, it makes us wonder if Niranjan Hiranandani is 'building' a new image for imself. CS catches up with the new ishtyle bhai as he picks up two jazzy shirts with zips et al:
WHO: Niranjan Hiranandani
WHAT: Talking about his shopping habits
WHERE: At a South Mumbai store
Buy the way
I always buy what I like, and that doesn't necessarily mean shopping for labels. I have to be comfortable in what I wear and be able to carry that off with elan. But I must confess that I am a very poor shopper. I am not at all impulsive and don't particularly enjoy shopping. And since I'm still a little old fashioned in my tastes, my kids are sometimes very critical of what I buy. If we're out shopping together, they'll say, "Dad, you can't buy that!" And while my wife might not comment on my dress sense, she would rather I gave her cash for her birthday, than an outfit of my choice.
Just casuals
But all said and done, I like to dress well, even though people might not tag me as a conventional power dresser. I bet you've seen me in formals most of the time, but I also like to show up in casuals once in while - maybe on a Sunday or a light, informal event. Though my tastes keep changing with the times, there are some styles that I just can't warm up to. For instance, the ripped jeans fad. I can never get myself to wearing them and I hope that they go out of fashion soon so that I don't have to consider following that trend.
Zip up
I do concede that I am not a very original dresser. Most of the time, I go with the classics, though I do take risks sometimes. You must see the zipper shirts that I've bought today! I'm sure they wouldn't appeal to many, but I think they're different and I like them. But, the torn jeans are still a no-no!
