After his chest injury ('Shetty spiked'; Hitlist, January 20) now Sunil Shetty has a hairline fracture in his thumb.

He reveals, "I was playing at my Khandala farmhouse when a ball hit my right thumb.

Now it's swollen like a ball and extremely painful. It's funny was just recovering from my chest injury when my thumb got broken. It's been set with a support system."

To add to Sunil's woes, his dad slipped and fell on the ground and broke his shoulder bone, "Though dad's home now, we have to wait for a week and see if the shoulder requires surgery.

Apart from the fact that he's 85 years old, dad has been taking blood-thinning medication and there are swellings because of that."

But the positive actor looks at the bright side, "It could've been worse. He could've broken his hipbone."

Work comes first

In spite of his and his father's ailments Sunil went to Baroda yesterday because ehe had made prior commitment. He was there to launch the new mammography machine at the cancer ward in Sterling Hospital.

He says, "This machine is amazing! In 10 minutes, it can detect if there's a chance of cancer and at a very early stage. Cancer risk is high especially for women above 40.u00a0

A friend of mine who spent 10 years fighting breast cancer finally succumbed to it. She had worked tirelessly to spread awareness of breast cancer.

As a husband, I am always worried and scared whenever Mana goes for a check-up. Last time she went, the result took a bit longer to come and those 24 hours were scary.

Even her mom had succumbed to cancer. I urge everyone should go for regular check-ups. Detected at early stages it's 100 per cent curable," he concludes.
