It's not the first time that a Hindi song has been inspired by an English chartbuster. It won't be the last.
The latest track to make that notorious list is Thayn Thayn from Dum Maaro Dum.

The Pritam composition has vocals by Abhishek Bachchan and sounds eerily similar to Give It To Me, a track by Timbaland featuring Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake.

The latter appears on the 2007 album Shock Value and was nominated at the Grammy's for Best Pop Vocal collaboration. The Hindi track isn't just similar in beats used but even apes the way the rap is spoken.

The 'inspirations' don't stop there. Another song on the DMD soundtrack, Jiyein Kyun reminds you of rock band Coldplay's Fix You.

Similar beats

Director Rohan Sippy defends his film with a counter-argument, "If you listen to the Jaane Do Na song from Saagar, it has a beat that's similar to the Timbaland track.

Melodies and harmonies get duplicated when there are identical rhythmic arrangements. So many songs from Bollywood sound like songs from the West."

Singer Justin Timberlake and producer/rapper Timbaland

Insisting that the music for DMD was a collaborative effort, he states "Jaideep (Sahni), Pritam and I sat down and decided what kind of sound we had to achieve.

The lyrics are the main attraction. I think it's interesting if people are drawing comparisons between the Timbaland track and our song.
