An old promise kept to Farah Khan ensures that Katrina's mom got the land she wanted for NGO
Farah Khan has made a R 30 lakh donation to Katrina Kaif's mother Mary Suzanne Turquotte's charity, thanks to Sheila Ki Jawaani. The amount went towards the buying of land for an NGO the star mum runs in Madurai.
Says Kat's friend, "Mary runs the orphanage Mercy Home in Madurai for children below the age of four.
It is part of Relief Projects India (RPI) and collaborates with The Claretian Educational and Social Services Society to rescue unwanted and abandoned baby girls, to prevent them from being killed. Kat strongly supports the cause. Her mom has been trying to get more land to build an orphanage for older children as these children (above the age of four) are sent to government organisations."
Left in the lurch
Turquotte bought land for her NGO. Reveals the friend, "The deal was made at R 80 lakh, of which Mary Suzanne raised R 50 lakh. One of the brands her beti endorses, promised to donate the remaining R 30 lakh but backed out at the last moment leaving the star maa in the lurch as the land deal had already been done."
Farah gives her take, "We made a pact before we shot Sheila that Kat would give a certain commission per show if the song was a hit. I meant it as a joke so when she called to say she was actually giving it, I was extremely touched. I can't take money from her but she wanted to keep her promise so I told her that whatever she gives me I will give back to her mom's charity. They are doing some really wonderful relief projects for the abandoned girl child. Katrina also does a lot for that charity. I really would like to help her mom's charity more in the future."
A grateful Mary Suzanne says, "I am very touched by the gesture extended by Katrina, and even more so by Farah. Their contribution will help usu00a0 in our work to aid mothers and disadvantaged children."
Says Katrina, "I remembered my promise to Farah about doing good with the success of the song. I was pleasantly surprised that she suggested sending the proceeds to my mother's charity. It was very kind of her and I'm so overwhelmed with her gesture."
