Trupti Bhoir's Touring Talkies could be the Best Film nomination by the Academy Awards
Even as the debate about Indian entry for Oscars is still to die out, one Indian film has managed to get nominated for the Oscars. Out of the 289 feature films that are eligible for the 2013 Academy Awards, one of them is Trupti Bhoir’s Touring Talkies.

Under Academy rules, a feature-length motion picture must have a running time of more than 40 minutes and must have been exhibited theatrically on 35mm or 70mm film or in a qualifying digital format. Bhoir’s film fits into the format.u00a0
Bhoir says, “I had a theatrical release of the film for two weeks and also did publicity and marketing in Los Angeles and because of that, our film was eligible as an American release and not as a foreign film from India."
The director candidly says that she kept away from applying in the foreign film category for a reason because “If a beautiful film like The Lunchbox fell victim to the politics of cinema, I certainly didn’t stand a chance.
So I decided to go to USA to release my film and it paid off.” Whether Touring Talkies stands a chance or not will be known on January 16 when the 86th Academy Awards nominations will be announced.u00a0
