After tickling our funny bone in De De Pyaar De, Ajay Devgn is all set to woo his fans with sports drama Maidaan. The film is based on golden years of Indian football, and the makers have already wrapped its 1st schedule in Mumbai on Wednesday, September 4, 2019. The 2nd schedule will also be in Mumbai and is expected to begin later this month. Maidaan also stars this year's National award winner Keerthi Suresh and Gajraj Rao. The film is expected to release in 2020.
Directed by Amit Sharma, Maidaan is based on legendary former player Syed Abdul Rahim, who was also an Indian football coach and manager of the Indian national team from 1950 until his death in 1963. He is regarded as the architect of modern Indian football. Ajay Devgn has so far given some versatile performances through his films. On choosing him in the lead, director Amit Sharma said in an interview with mid-day: "We are telling a story of an honest man who was an underdog and took football to the next level. That is the kind of journey that Ajay sir has gone through. Also, he is one actor who can show a variety of emotions purely with his eyes. This role demanded that."
