A biopic on Subrata Roy, chairman of Sahara India Pariwar, is in the works. On Friday, the makers of the film released a statement, which read, “Film on business tycoon Subrata Roy to be officially announced on his 73rd birthday on June 10, 2021. More details are under wraps for now.”

Last year, the Sahara India Pariwar had objected to the Netflix series, Bad Boy Billionaires: India, which featured Roy, claiming the docu-series was “incorrect and depicted through disgruntled people who hold personal grudges against the company.” Meanwhile, Roy, who is currently out on parole since 2016, stayed in Tihar jail for over two years. The Supreme Court in 2012 had ruled that Sahara group companies violated securities laws and illegally raised over USD 3.5 billion.
