Sashaying down the red carpet at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made heads turn in her Falguni and Shane Peacock selections. What was conspicuous, however, was her bandaged arm that was telling of an injury she had previously incurred. On May 11, the actor fractured her right wrist after suffering a fall at her residence. “Despite her injury, she still made it to The Cannes to fulfil her brand commitments. She demonstrated indomitable spirit, and was committed to her craft,” says the source, adding that she also participated in media interactions during her time at the festival.

“Two days after her fall, she did her costume fittings with her designers,  and only requested that they ensure that the venue was spacious and comfortable so that she could avoid another injury. The brand was thankful and appreciative that she met her share of the deal despite being in pain,” says the source, adding that Rai also registered her vote in the fifth phase of the elections on Monday.

Later this week, Rai will undergo surgery at a suburban hospital. “Her doctors had stated that she could undergo surgery after the swelling had subsided, and had granted permission to travel for the festival. She is likely to be seen in a splint for a month, and will subsequently undergo physiotherapy to regain her strength.”
