Sensing a crisis, Ram Gopal Varma has decided to delay the release of D Company, which was slated to hit the screens on March 26.

The surge in COVID-19 cases is worrying filmmakers who have releases lined up. They are adopting a wait-and-watch policy before taking a call. Sensing a crisis, Ram Gopal Varma has decided to delay the release of D Company, which was slated to hit the screens on March 26. The film, which is said to be based on the life of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, stars Ashwat Kanth in the lead role, while the actor's younger brother Rudr Kanth will essay the role of Dawood's late elder brother Shabir Ibrahim Kaskar.


Varma took to Twitter to post the update, tweeting: "Due to the sudden severe covid rise in many parts of the country and also amid continuous news of new lockdowns, we at SPARK decided to postpone the release of D COMPANY ..A new date will be announced ASAP #DCompany @SparkSagar1."



The filmmaker had shared the first look of the film in January and called it the "mother of all gangster films". The film will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. 

Varma made his debut in Hindi films as a director with Nagarjuna's Shiva in 1989 and went on to direct films like Raat, Rangeela, Daud, Satya, Kaun, Mast, Jungle, Company, Bhoot, Sarkar, Sarkar Raj, Rakht Charitra, Rann, and The Attacks of 26/11. The actor is currently keen on making a horror film 12 o'clock.

The filmmaker, who has successfully dabbled in the genre with films like Raat and Bhoot, confessed to being fascinated by it. Considering that fear is a natural instinct, he attempts to egg viewers on to be imaginative. He confessed to having tried an array of tricks to bring his films to life.
