Darshan Raval who recently rung in his birthday, speaks to mid-day.com about his new song Duniya Chhor Doon, his fans the ‘Blue family’ and how Indian musicians can deal with the K-wave that has hit India.

Your song ‘Duniya Chhor Doon’ has just released. What are the reactions you have been getting?
I read comments on YouTube and I’m happy are people are loving it. It doesn't have any video yet, so I’m happy that people are making reels. I think the lovely comments are my birthday gift from fans.

Your fans had your birthday trending over social media 10 days in advance itself…
It’s a part of life now, my family. I call them the Blue family. Whenever I need them, they are there and this is the third song I’ve dedicated to them. ‘Rabba Mehr Kari’ and ‘Jannat Ve’ was also dedicated to them. I had tattooed ‘Blue family’ in these videos and now ‘Duniya Chhor Doon’ is for them. It’s nice when people love you and you get to do something for them. My fans are loud and they trend every now and then.

How did the song happen, it has a Punjabi touch…
The writer Youngveer is Punjabi, this is the second song with Youngveer this year. He’s a talented artiste. I like to work with people who know me well because this is not a film song, it's independent music. We don’t have any actor, just the song. Youngveer has written ‘Ek Tarfa,’ ‘Rabba Mehr Kari’ and ‘Duniya Chhor Doon’. The music is produced by Aditya Dev, I’m glad to be working with talented people around me.

You have had hits like ‘Chogada Tara’ in Bollywood, but does independent music hold a special place in your heart?
Yes, there is no creative block, you are free to write and express yourself.

How did you spend your birthday?
Luckily all my friends were at my home on my birthday, listening to my song and reading comments. The song played on loop.

You started out as a contestant on the reality show Raw Star, how would you describe your journey?
It’s been a beautiful journey, I met the right people who guided me. I’ve grown as an artiste because of the constant support I’ve been getting. When people are so excited for your work, the creators automatically get charged. We don’t want to put out something average. It is their energy that inspires me to make great music every day.

Any advice to people who want to make it big in the music field like you?
The first advice is don’t be like me, be like you! That will take you places. Second is patience, you don’t get anything overnight. If you do, it will go away overnight too. If you don’t believe in yourself, no one will believe in you.

How do Indian artistes stand out among the K-wave that has hit India?
I watch Korean dramas but have not got into their music as much. But if Indians are following it, there has to be a good reason. We also have to do something by which our music reaches Korea.

What's next?
I’ve done all the sad songs in 2020. 2021 has been all happy love songs. Now I’m thinking of doing something different that people don’t expect from me. Melody is a spiritual process and it comes to me, but I can experiment. So let's see how people love it.
