Tahir Raj Bhasin in Looop Lapeta
After Taapsee Pannu provided a glimpse of her character Savi from Looop Lapeta, mid-day brings the first look of Tahir Raj Bhasin. Sporting a red T-shirt, bandana and tinted glasses, he slips into the role of Satya, a wheeler-dealer who unwittingly gets his girlfriend entangled in his mission. With the film, director Aakash Bhatia has given a desi twist to German thriller, Run Lola Run (1998).

Tahir shared about the character in a media interaction and mentioned about his role. “Satya is an irreverent guy. I’m a risk-chasing charmer in the film and I’ve had an incredible time playing him. He’s pretty out there in his optimism and lust for life. I’d describe him as all silver lining & no cloud. He’s a hustler who believes with all his soul that the universe conspires in his favour. The look has him in a loose brown shirt, he dons these retro sunglasses and has a nose piercing. All of these style elements have been created in sync with his personality of being the laid back rebel.”
Tahir’s look also reveals a textile mill setting for the film. Quiz him about this and the actor quipped, “The image of Satya’s look is a still from a scene that was shot at an abandoned textile mill for Looop Lapeta. For Aakash Bhatia, the director, the locations are an inherent character in the film. They make a visual statement about the vibe of the story and the world. Yes, this particular location plays a central role in the plot but to know more about how and why Satya is there stay tuned for the release date. All I can say at this point is that it’ll be a mad ride!”
Tahir is relishing playing the quintessential Bollywood hero for the first time in Looop Lapeta. He says, “Playing the quintessential Bollywood hero has been super exciting. When you grow up on your dose of Bollywood, it seems like very familiar territory. Satya is the laid-back charmer that your parents warned you about. Aakash Bhatia and the producers Atul Kasbekar and Tanuj Garg have poured their heart in to creatively balance the style and wit the hero brings to the script. Having the spectacular Taapsee to play opposite has only made exploring an onscreen romantic chemistry an incredibly fun and rewarding experience.”
In an interview with mid-day, Tahir Raj Bhasin shared, "I've lived with the story as drafts have improved through the lockdown. It seems challenging and different from anything I've explored before, which only doubles the excitement. In acting, the lead pair's performance is like a dance duet. Taapsee has a charming energy and is an instinctive actor. I hope the audience likes our chemistry."
When the actor started shooting for the film with Taapsee Pannu, he mentioned, "We were a mix of nervousness and excitement. Taapsee and I spoke about the lockdown months and the feeling of being on the sets now. [We agreed] that one shouldn't take this positive energy for granted. Shooting in the new normal also meant that we had to work with certain restrictions — be it wearing masks or maintaining social distance. The crew is doing their bit to safeguard themselves and the project."
Run Lola Run was a much-loved thriller, which was based on the adventures of a woman who needs to obtain 100,000 Deutsche Mark in twenty minutes to save her boyfriend's life. We wonder what Taapsee and the team of Looop Lapeta will have in store for us!
