Actor-politician Luv S Sinha is returning to the big screen with Anil Sharma-directed Gadar 2, which releases today globally. He will be seen in a brief yet important role. Gadar 2 also stars Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma among others. Amid anticipation and excitement for the sequel, Luv spoke to Mid-Day exclusively about the film and his role.

Talking about his role in Gadar 2, Luv said, "Though I have a guest appearance, I am happy with the role I got. Films like Gadar 2 don’t come to you often. For me, it’s been a great opportunity to work with Anil Sharma, Sunny Deol and the team." Luv further revealed that he was the one who approached director Anil for a role in the project. "I approached Anil sir for the film. I prefer that. I got to know that Gadar 2 was being made and hence I approached him. He also wanted to gauge my work and after several rounds of discussion, I was signed for the film."

Reacting to Gadar 2's clash with Akshay Kumar's OMG 2, Luv shared, "There’s no clash. I’m sure OMG 2 is a good film and Akshay sir has put in hard work. This is inevitable because there are limited Fridays. As a member of the industry, I want the best for OMG 2 but I am team Gadar 2 (laughs)."

Luv further spoke about self-proclaimed critics on social media and censorship restrictions. "With the emergence of social media, things have gone out of hand. Random people have podcasts. People comment on how you should lead your life but they don’t know how to live their own lives. I try to avoid paying attention to these people. You cannot be affected by the clueless talks they do."

He added, "Things are certainly going out of hand. The amount of gore, sex and language used in certain shows and films for no reason and they call it creative expression. Didn’t we have good cinema being made without this? Didn’t we have good stories being told without this? There should be a balance and I feel that balance is shifted now."

During the pandemic, the Indian film industry incurred losses on a vast scale. Will event films like Gadar 2 play an important role in reviving it? Luv explained, "I feel films like Gadar 2 will give a good boost to the industry. The anticipation for the film has built organically. On the internet, some self-proclaimed critics spoke ill about Gadar 2 before the trailer. After the trailer launched, their thought process changed. Those who were attached to the film had an idea that the film will shape into something that most Indians will relate to. Films shouldn’t be made for the elites; they have to be made for all. Gadar 2 will reach out to the most audience and that’s how the industry will be benefitted. It is a film for the masses and classes. The film will help but we need more good stuff for the audience to come back to theatres. Online viewing is great but every actor who has seen the magic of being on the big screen knows the difference."
