The medical fraternity has been working tirelessly and resolutely in the face of mounting cases, scarcity of oxygen, and lack of beds. Knowing that their emotional well-being is of prime importance during these grim times, Farah Khan has hopped aboard the Annapurna 2.0 initiative, a programme launched by senior doctors across Mumbai to lift the spirits of young medical professionals. Khan, along with actor Boman Irani, will host an hour-long chat tomorrow with 500 resident doctors and interns of five government hospitals, including BYL Nair, JJ, Cooper, Sion and KEM.

The filmmaker reveals that renowned paediatrician Dr Fazal Nabi of Jaslok Hospital approached her to be part of the programme. “It’ll be a live chat over Zoom where they will ask questions to Boman and me. The doctors are so exhausted that this chat will lighten their mood and take their minds off work briefly. We don’t want it to be preachy, but light-hearted,” says Khan, before joking that she’ll regale them with stories of her affair with Irani. Many Bollywood stars have participated in fundraisers, thus doing their bit for the cause. “I get requests every day to be part of some fundraiser, but I don’t know where these funds are going. I want to do something where I know my output is reaching the person directly,” she states.

Irani, who has seen images of doctors rushing from one patient to another, or resting on the floor after a hard day’s work, says he can’t thank them enough for their selfless service. “We’ve jumped on the thank-you brigade a little too late. It’s only because of the pandemic that we have come to appreciate them,” he adds.
