Fighting climate change, one idea at a time for Bhumi Pednekar

In her bid to reduce carbon footprint, Bhumi Pednekar teams up with Anirudh Sharma, whose invention turns hazardous air particles into ink.

Bhumi Pednekar, an active climate warrior, has been relentlessly doing her bit to protect the environment. After implementing a zero-waste and zero-plastic policy on the set of her upcoming film Badhaai Do, the actor has now joined forces with Anirudh Sharma for a digital campaign that aims to reduce carbon footprint in the country. Sharma is the co-creator of Air-Ink, founded by Graviky Labs, which uses hazardous particulate matter in the air and turns it into ink.

Graviky began as a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab experiment that saw a tool being created to capture the soot from a burning candle. Taking the experiment forward, Sharma invented a device that captured the carbon-based gaseous effluents generated by air pollution and converted them into safe, water-based inks, paints and coatings that can be used for packaging and apparel printing. Believing that this will be a significant step in curbing pollution, Pednekar says, “Anirudh Sharma is a climate warrior and a cool inventor. His innovation has spread to various artiste and scientist communities, and he has some fantastic ideas with Air-Ink.”
