Sharvari and Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt is set to begin shooting for her yet-untitled film with director Vasan Bala next month. And later, she will move on to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Baiju Bawra with Ranveer Singh. While the National Award-winning actor has some thrills in Bala’s prison-break movie, she will get into full-on action mode with her entry into the YRF spy universe. Alia and Sharvari, who will team up for Aditya Chopra’s new espionage thriller, will undergo extensive prep before they begin filming in May 2024. The two leading ladies will also train in mixed-martial arts during their rigorous three-month prep. With the film, Alia will be the latest addition to the spy universe that comprises Salman Khan’s Tiger, Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, and Hrithik Roshan’s Kabir.

It has been reported that Sanjay Dutt is teaming up with director Raaj Shaandilyaa for his next. Now, we hear that the actor plays a Casanova who also has a series of extramarital affairs in the quirky comedy venture. Interestingly, the laugh-riot is along the lines of Salman Khan’s No Entry and has younger actors playing Sanju’s protégés. While the rest of the cast is being finalised, Aparshakti Khurana has been confirmed for one of the roles. Apparently, he has several funny lines that add up to his track with Sanju in the course of the narrative.

Realising past mistakes

Even as he is bracing for a comeback as an actor, Imran Khan is trying to reshape his relationship with his past films. For someone who previously looked at them from a negative mindset, he stated on social media that he is not blaming anyone. Alongside screenshots of his fans’ comments about how much they loved his Break Ke Baad and its songs, Imran wrote, “Here’s where I realise my mistake; I paid so much heed to the voices that hurt... And I never valued the voices that loved. What a fool! I won’t make that mistake again. Thank you all for helping me change my perspective.”

The makers of Vrushabha recently wrapped up the first schedule of the period action drama. To commemorate the occasion, they shared the first look of lead actor Mohanlal from the thriller on social media. Sporting a regal look with a sword in his hand and eyes simmering with intensity, the image of the Malayalam superstar went viral in no time. Consequently, increasing buzz about the high-octane thriller has further piqued audience interest. Shanaya Kapoor, who finally makes her big screen debut with the film, penned a heartfelt note for Mohanlal, saying, “It was an honour to share the screen with you, sir. Can’t wait to get started with the final schedule in London next month.” Helmed by Nanda Kishore, the film also stars Roshan Meka, Srikanth Meka, Zahrah S Khan and Ragini Dwivedi.

It looks like Shruti Haasan believes that if you want something done, do it yourself. Her upcoming action thriller, Salaar, is no exception, but in fact, special. It sees her collaborate on-screen with Prabhas, and that too under the direction of Prashanth Neel, who is riding high on the success of KGF: Chapter 2. Shruti is currently in Hyderabad, dubbing for the eagerly-anticipated film that releases on September 28. Since Salaar is being readied for a pan-India release, Shruti is dubbing the Telugu, Tamil and Hindi versions herself. She believes that dubbing in one’s own voice adds a layer of authenticity to the portrayal.

After deleting an appreciation post for Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, Varun Dhawan did the same for Akshay Kumar’s OMG2. Sharing the film’s poster, he wrote, “Absolutely loved this film. The execution and performances are exceptional,” tagging the actors. But he soon deleted it and uploaded another post for Nushrratt Bharuccha’s Akelli, saying he is “really looking forward to this brave film.”

No laughing matter this!

The Bombay High Court has declined to halt the release of Dream Girl 2. One Ashim Bagchi had filed a case alleging that the storyline of Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday-starrer bears a striking resemblance to a script he registered with the Screen Writers Association in May 2007. The court stated, “It is well settled that at the eleventh hour, films should not be prevented from their release.” The matter will now be heard on August 31.

Even as his latest release, OMG 2, continues to attract cinegoers, Akshay Kumar has moved on to his next. The actor is currently in Uttar Pradesh to shoot the action thriller, Sky Force. Soon after landing in Lucknow, he headed to Sitapur, where he kicked off work on Dinesh Vijan’s production venture. Akki plays an Indian Air Force officer in director duo Abhishek Kapoor and Sandeep Kelwani’s aviation thriller that also stars Sara Ali Khan and debutant Veer Pahariya in pivotal roles. The OMG 2 star will shoot his scenes first, after which Sara and Veer will join him. Akki is expected to complete some of his crucial sequences before he takes a short break to celebrate his 56th birthday on September 9 with his family.
