Aamir Khan’s ad for a tyre brand has sparked outrage for hurting religious sentiments. In the commercial, the superstar advises not to burst firecrackers on the streets to ensure a safe drive for cars. Instead, people should celebrate within their housing complexes. The ad sparked a social media debate on release. A section of netizens criticised its concept and Mr Perfectionist for being a part of it. Now, Anantkumar Hegde, the BJP MP from Karnataka, has expressed his anger. He dashed off a letter to the company officials to do a rethink. The ad “will create unrest”, and Hegde hoped that the brand respects the sentiments of all. He took potshots at Khan by questioning whether showing certain celebrations in poor light is the only job the actor does. “Why is there silence about the observations in other faiths?” the politician asked. Hegde told the brand folk to address the problems faced when followers of another religion pray on the road on a particular day and block it on festive occasions.
