He was the best selling artist of the 2000s. &gt;&gt;u00a0Eminem failed 9th grade a total of three times, because he didn't care much about school. All he wanted to do was rap. &gt;&gt;u00a0After procuring a copy of the Beastie Boys album Licensed to Ill as a teenager, Eminem became further interested in rap, performing amateur raps at age 14 under the pseudonym M&amp;M. &gt;&gt;u00a0His father abandoned the family when he was 18 months old, and he was raised solely by his mother. &gt;&gt; Eminem married Kimberley Anne Scott, whom he met in high school, twice. They began their on-and-off relationship in 1989, getting married by 1999. The couple first divorced in 2001 but remarried in January 2006. Their second divorce was finalised in December of the same year. &gt;&gt;u00a0In 1999, Mathers' mother sued him for around US$10 million over alleged slander about her in his lyrics regarding The Slim Shady LP; she won only about US$1,600 in damages in 2001.
