Director David Dhawan, who ruled the Bollywood in the `90s, has revealed that it was Sanjay Dutt who motivated him to take up direction.
 
David Dhawan, an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, went through many courses during his career. Although he initially thought of becoming an actor, he enrolled in FTII for the film editing course.

However, it was during the editing of the film `Naam` when Sanjay told him to explore possibilities as a director.
