As a power-packed line-up of artistes — including Vishal and Rekha Bhardwaj, and Gulzar — join hands to present the soundtrack of Kuttey, Sukhwinder on the collaborative process of making Phir dan te nan

Vishal Bhardwaj ropes in the team that created his acclaimed Kaminey number, Dhan te nan, to craft a remixed version of the song for last Friday’s release, Kuttey. Sukhwinder Singh, who rendered both the tracks, calls this edition a tease that drives the film forward. “This one involves elements of storytelling. While the hook line was retained, it is an entirely different composition,” says the singer, adding that his prowess behind the mic is most evident when rendering dance numbers, like this one.

While comparatively less upbeat when pitted against the original, this track, Singh says, was designed to be equally entertaining and up-tempo. “I was told to sing to express myself, because we wanted to make people dance,” he says of the song that features in Bhardwaj’s son Aasmaan’s directorial venture, starring Tabu and Arjun Kapoor.

Like his father, Aasmaan, says Singh, has a knack for choosing scripts based on unusual subjects. Spending time with them in the recording studio was no less than a learning experience for the singer. “While Vishal was recording with me, Aasmaan was also present in the studio, along with Gulzar. During the recording, Vishal would constantly look at Aasmaan for approval. He wouldn’t look at him like a father would his son, but like a composer would his director. He wouldn’t command his son [to accept his compositions], but would look at him with the hope that Aasmaan would like them,” says Singh, who has rendered two songs in the film. Kuttey also stars Radhika Madan, Konkona Sensharma and Naseeruddin Shah in pivotal roles.
