Kailash Kher gives former PM’s poetry a musical treatment for Main Atal Hoon

The politically charged atmosphere in the wake of the soon-to-be-inaugurated Ram Mandir in Ayodhya has trickled down to Bollywood, with filmmakers uninhibited—elated even—to flaunt their admiration for Lord Ram.

Pankaj Tripathi’s upcoming offering, Main Atal Hoon, is a case in point, with National Award-winning singer Kailash Kher coming aboard to write, compose and render Ram dhun. “The song is being widely appreciated, and being played at Ayodhya, only days after its release. Right now, the [only discussion] is on Lord Ram. We are dedicating an album to him. It will be an expression of the different ways in which [people pray] to him. We wanted to celebrate the Lord with all our hearts. If you continue to take his name, you’ll find the light within you, and will also find a solution to your problems,” says Kher of one of the two songs that he has composed for the Pankaj Tripathi starrer.

Another interesting music piece in Ravi Jadhav’s directorial venture is Hindu tan-man, a musical spin on poetry penned by the late PM, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, in his youth. “We have moulded Atal ji’s kavita, which is a celebration of [the Hindu lifestyle]. It was his thoughts and ways of living that we wanted to showcase. The legendary lyrics could pave the way for the making of a song, which is why we explored it.” Composed by Amitraj, the number was launched in Lucknow, where Vajpayee served as MP, before retiring from active politics.
