Comedian-actor Kapil Sharma is claiming that car designer Dilip Chhabria unlawfully took Rs 5.31 crore from him and failed to return it. As per a report in PinkVilla, Mohammad Hamid, Kapil's authorized representative, has filed a money laundering case against Dilip. Kapil alleges that Chhabria, known for cheating other celebrities, is involved in illegal activities.

Kapil Sharma takes legal action

Here's why Kapil Sharma took legal action against Dilip Chhabria of fraud: In December 2016, Kapil approached Chhabria to customize a vanity van, costing around Rs 4.5 crore without taxes. An agreement was made in March 2017, with Kapil paying Rs 5.31 crore, inclusive of taxes. However, Chhabria's company, DC Designs Private Ltd, didn't deliver the van or refund the money, citing materials stored in a warehouse. When questioned, Dilip requested more funds, claiming financial difficulties.

Kapil became suspicious when Dilip demanded additional money. Chhabria accused Kapil of delayed inspection, causing van delivery delays. Kapil took legal action, sending a recovery notice in April 2019. Chhabria continued extortion attempts, including false parking charges and loan requests.

Legal actions against Dilip Chhabria: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) included Kapil's representative's statement in a money laundering case chargesheet against Chhabria. ED's case, based on three FIRs, alleges Chhabria raised money unlawfully, causing a total loss of Rs 18.13 crore to complainants. The ED traced funds to Dilip's firm, proving money laundering. On February 7, a PMLA court acknowledged the chargesheet, summoning Dilip and six others to appear on February 26.

Kapil Sharma's rise to fame

Kapil quickly rose to fame after he won season 3 of the comedy reality television show 'The Great Indian Laughter Challenge' amongst other famous comedians like Chandan Prabhakar (first runner-up) and Sudesh Lehri (second runner-up) in 2007. Kapil won a cash prize of Rs.10 lakhs.

Kapil later participated in the comedy-reality show, Comedy Circus which aired on Sony Entertainment Television. The show featured contestants presenting their comedic acts. Sharma made a record by winning six consecutive seasons of the show.

In 2013, the comedian launched his very own comedy show, 'Comedy Nights with Kapil' under the K9 Productions banner on Colours TV. Kapil was accompanied on the show by other comedians like Ali Asgar, Sumona Chakravarti, Kiku Sharda, and Chandan Prabhakar with Navjot Singh Siddhu as the permanent guest. The show featured countless celebrity guests who would promote their films. In September 2013, the show became the highest-rated scripted television show of India. The show eventually came to an end after a successful three-year run due to his differences with the channel, marking the last aired episode on January 24, 2016.
