Karan Johar's Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is making waves at the box office. Headlined by Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, it is a family rom-com. Much before its release, a section of people praised the lead pair and even called them the next Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. On the contrary, a group wrote them off for the lack of chemistry.

In an interview with Film Companion, director Karan reacted to both sides. Talking about the assumption that Alia and Ranveer lacked chemistry in the song, Tum Kya Mile, the filmmaker said, "Yeh kahaan se aaya mujhe samajh hi nahi aata, unki itni chemistry hai (I don’t know where this came from, they have such incredible chemistry). How can you show chemistry in two minutes? There was so much chatter about that hair flip. I didn’t even notice it, I was like, ‘Did he really move his head? Okay maybe.’ I saw it later."
Opening up about the comparison with Shah Rukh and Kajol, who were the central couple in Karan's debut film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, and My Name Is Khan, the director shared, "How can you live up to that? You can’t, right? But I still wanted to satisfy my urge to go to Kashmir and shoot a love song. Hoga comparison, of course, hoga. Maine hi woh gaane banaye hain, main phirse kar raha hoon (Of course there will be comparisons. I made those songs, and I’m doing them once again)."
Karan returns to the director's chair with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani after a gap of 7 years. His previous directorials were Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Student Of The Year and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani has crossed the 50-crore mark at the box office in just 4 days. It released in theatres globally on July 28, 2023. It is produced by Karan's Dharma Productions and Viacom18 Studios. The film is written by Ishita Moitra, Shashank Khaitan and Sumit Roy.
