Lata Mangeshkar has been hospitalised in a Mumbai hospital after contracting from Covid-19. The 92-year-old singer tested positive for Covid-19 with mild symptoms, but due to her age, she was immediately taken to ICU. Her niece confirmed the news with ANI.

"Didi is admitted to ICU after she was diagnosed with COVID-19. Dr Pratik Samdani is treating her and he says that there is nothing serious but she needs to be kept in ICU for precautionary reasons seeing her age. We hope she will recover soon. Please respect our privacy and keep didi in your prayers," Mangeshkar's niece Rachna told ANI.

Fondly called 'Nightingale of India', the legendary singer has recorded songs in over a thousand Hindi films and has sung many tracks in several Indian languages and foreign languages.

Her iconic songs include 'Lag Jaa Gale', 'Yeh Galiyan Yeh Chaubara', 'Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya', 'Bahon Mein Chale Aao', 'Tere Liye' from 'Veer Zara' and many more.

Born on September 28, 1929, Lata Mangeshkar was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and France's highest civilian award, Officer of the Legion of Honour, besides numerous national and international awards. In 1974, the Guinness Book of Records ranked her as the most recorded artiste in history. She had reportedly sung over 25,000 songs between 1948 and 1974.

She became a recipient of India's highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna in 2001.

Earlier this year, Lata Mangeshkar launched her album, Bhavartha Mauli, to mark Gudi Padwa. It consists of 10 devotional Marathi tracks rendered by the legend, and composed by brother Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar. The songs are based on the works of Marathi saint and 13th-century poet Sant Dnyaneshwar.

Speaking on the launch of this album, Lata Mangeshkar said, "It is an absolute honour and a privilege that I am able to present the poetic works of the great saint and poet Sant Dnayeshwar to this generation. Through this album called Bhavaarth Mauli, my brother Hridaynath and I have made a humble attempt to introduce each of these poems by a commentary explaining and unravelling the spirituality and essence of the poetry. I hope the audience has the same beautiful spiritual experience listening to these beautiful compositions just as we have had in bringing them to you."
