After a stint of successful outings in television and films, actor Mahesh Shetty finally gets to essay his dream role—air force pilot—on the 70mm screen with the historical war drama, Bhuj: The Pride Of India. Shetty says, “Growing up, I always nursed the dream of joining the Armed Forces some day. I am thrilled that I got to live it vicariously through this film.”

The Abhishek Dudhaiya directorial venture chronicles the life of IAF Squadron leader Vijay Karnik, who reconstructed the IAF airbase with the help of 300 women from the local village Madhapar. Playing a pivotal character in the film, Shetty says, “This film came as a breath of fresh air. It was diverse from all my previous characters. I’m always looking for challenging roles. And here, I had the opportunity to live and play such a historically important part. I believe one must start delivering from the audition itself. I grabbed the opportunity and gave it my all.”
Crediting Dudhaiya for the extensive research on the subject, the actor says, “Be it the reading material, meeting our counterparts in person or the physical training required for the part—he had it all covered.” But the icing on the cake for Shetty was the opportunity to share screen space with Ajay Devgn. “I have known Ajay sir since childhood as we lived in the same complex. I have always looked up to him. It’s an honour to perform with him and watch his craft up-close. He is a maverick in every department,” adds the actor.
