Many may believe that Parineeti Chopra has been cast against type in The Girl on the Train. But then, isn’t that the beauty of acting, that it offers the artiste an opportunity to shed her inhibitions and image, and become one with the character! Director Ribhu Dasgupta knew that casting Chopra as the alcoholic divorcee Mira in the psychological thriller was a curveball.

“I love that Parineeti is not the obvious choice for this film; that’s the biggest [incentive] for me. If you know a specific actor is terrific at her work and that she has not played such a role before, you can be assured that the moment you throw this challenge to her, she will take it up,” reasons the director. Chopra, who has been vocal about wanting to shed the bubbly image, stayed true to her word, lapping up the project when it came her way. “She is the kind of artiste who will leave behind all the work she has done before, and find a new [interpretation] to her part.”
