Rarely has Nimrat Kaur fallen in love so hard with a character as she did with her part in Sajini Shinde Ka Viral Video. In the thriller, she plays a no-nonsense cop investigating the disappearance of a teacher, essayed by Radhika Madan. In showing how a Hindi-speaking cop navigates a Marathi-dominated set-up, the film also highlights how a woman breaks into the male bastion. “I couldn’t wait to get into the skin of the character. I liked everything about her—her quiet sex appeal, her grit, her bad**s attitude that she wore with aplomb. She is a hard-working woman, who is feisty in a man’s world,” says the actor.

Earlier this year, Kaur featured in School of Lies, which too revolves around the disappearance of a central character. But Mikhil Musale’s latest directorial venture and the series are worlds apart, she asserts. “Apart from the fact that there are teachers and schools in both stories, the canvas and the purpose are different. Sajini Shinde is focused on the demonic consequences of social media. What separates the two social thrillers the most is that School of Lies is not a family watch. This film’s reach is wider.”
It has been a fulfilling year for the actor, who featured in the international series, Foundation. Up next, she has Ribhu Dasgupta’s next with Amitabh Bachchan. She is glad that the storytelling world has changed drastically, thanks to OTT, with the focus shifting to quality stories. This has put the spotlight on actors more than stars, opines Kaur.
“I find it strengthening as an artiste to speak to different kinds of audiences spread across the world. I want to explore projects in different languages. Opportunities have increased for actors today with OTT, and the parts written for women now didn’t exist 10 years ago. Now, I fall in love with scripts more quickly. Earlier, it was tricky. As a performer, I aim to create a profile where different people remember me for different shows and movies. For some, I could be the woman from The Test Case, for others, I’m the woman in Dasvi [2022].”
