Simply put, music can be magical. It has the power to evoke different kinds of emotions in humans and sometimes transports us to a different time altogether. In recent times, old hit tracks have been remade/remixed for new movies in a bid to probably evoke nostalgia. Audiences and musicians have been debating on the topic of remixes with the rise in number of tracks being remade. On the account of World Music Day, we take a look at what singer and composer Sheykhar Ravjiani had to say about the culture of remixes.

Talking to mid-day.com a while ago, Ravjiani had expressed his thoughts on the remix culture. “I've seen times when remixes have come and done magic. For example, Dance Masti. It was done by Shankar Ehsaan Loy. It had ‘Dil Kya Kare’ and sung by Shaan. It also had some amazing versions of the original songs. So I know what great versions sound like. Then there are remixes of songs which I wonder why they were remixed. Because they drop the quality of the way the original was. I always feel that you don't need to remix a certain song. Because let the original be the way it is.  But then when there are great energies and love for the song, then the result is always something special."

"It is also a dangerous thing, in a sense. A couple of our songs have been remixed and it's scary when the songs are remixed. Like when we did 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' title track, we had to do it with a lot of respect. When the name of the film is 'Bachna Ae Haseeno', and the title track has to be that. Then how do you give it that respect? So I had to be very careful," he added.

While Ravjiani says he does not support remixes, the new rendition of his song 'Zehnaseeb' by him, Karan Kanchan and Kasyap is not a remix, he says. "This is a new soundscape, a re-imagination of this song, which is very beautifully done by Karan with Kasyap's vocals. It feels as if it's just taking you back to those 10  years. It’s not distracting you from the memory of those 10 years. And that itself is a compliment for the composer.  Their (Karan and Kasyap) love for the song has been seen in this production. This age is going to consume this song. But still, it will remind them strongly of that 10 years of 'Zehnaseeb' which is beautiful. And I get to live both."
