In 2017, Shreyas Talpade extended his skills to direction with Poster Boys. Four years on, the actor is back in the director’s chair with SarCar Ki Seva Mei. While the project had gone on floors in Lucknow in late 2019, Talpade could not proceed with the second stint in 2020 due to the pandemic. It was finally last week that he resumed his place behind the camera and called for action at Trimurti Studio in Mumbai.

“Like the film’s title, its story too is unique,” promises Talpade. The social comedy revolves around a Lucknow boy whose father, a government employee, hopes that he follows in his footsteps. When the protagonist is unable to land a government job, he is happy making a living as a taxi driver until an incident changes the course of his life. “The movie is inspired by a real-life incident. When our writer Vikram Shankar was travelling across Uttar Pradesh, his driver was narrating his experiences to him, [thus sparking the film’s genesis]. It conveys a simple message — as citizens, we have duties towards the government that we should fulfill. We have treated [the idea] in a humorous manner.”

Headlining the film while being the captain of the ship can be unnerving, but the actor-director is enjoying the double duty. “It’s fun doing the balancing act. My team helps me a lot,” says Talpade, who is prepping for the third leg slated for October.
