Being used to the 70mm screen, a few artistes also find charm in short stories. Supriya Pathak is set to feature in the short film Gangster Ganga. “I play an interesting character. She calls herself Gangster Ganga, but she is not a gangster in that sense. She is a modern-day grandmother.”

Releasing on October 4 at the JioCinema Film Festival, Gangster Ganga narrates the story of the interpersonal relationship between a grandson and his grandmother. Known to choose her roles with much deliberation, she says, “I liked the story. It is simple and sweet. When you start a relationship with your grandparents, you are a baby, and then both grow up. There is a [generational] gap in thinking; therefore, it won’t match until you realise that it’s not true. Grandparents realise their relationship [with the next generation] has to evolve and change with time, but [they’ll] always be people you can fall back on,” says the actor, adding that she was pleased with the enthusiastic young team. Pathak shares that she never thought of doing a short film until this came her way. “I always wanted to act on a larger canvas, but that was when I was young. Now, I write and read short stories. It was an interesting challenge to create a character in a limited amount of time,” she adds.

Crediting husband Pankaj Kapur for imparting his wisdom of the craft, she says, “Pankaj ji is a great actor, I learned a lot from him when I wanted to do different characters. He said that the script is the Bible, and I will get everything from it. Today, it is the most important thing for me. I now work on creating the character as per the script.”
