Q: What was the most rewarding part of working on this movie?
A: There was a lot. This might sound a little cliché, but we were filming in this park and over couple of weeks we kept coming back to it and we were filming in sequence and as the characters’ lives were deteriorating, the leaves were falling off the trees in an unbelievably cinematic way and we just saw this crazy sunset every night. Jason was there and Austen Stowell, Timberlake, Nelson, just these great human beings. And you know that moment, for me personally I was like wow I’m pregnant with my first baby, playing a part that I love, doing a job that I love, surrounded by great guys and the sun setting. Well I watch this kaleidoscope of leaves come down from a tree. So good!

Q: What about the idea to have your monster outside of you, in real life?
A: Oh, my god I wish we could. Without the death and destruction it’d be so cathartic. I gotta say, one of the things I love about this movie so much, that I don’t always see in movies, Gloria feels the weight of her actions. She’s a pretty isolated drunk when you meet her. And obviously because of the movie’s more fantastical elements, we don’t have this represented in her life, but her shadow self blowing up in her face the way it does and disrupting people’s lives in the way it does, it gets her through therapy like that. The stakes become so high for her. And I don’t want to drudge up the past, I really, really, really don’t, but I did have my monster out there. I did have the internet turn on me and hate me and it was a whole big thing. And it was an important thing for me, you can become incredibly empowered and more self-actualized because of those things. So I guess what I’d say is, when the bad shit happens, don’t fear it, go with it, flow with it. So if this happens to us, I actually think without the loss of life, I think people would actually be a lot better off for it.

Q: In March, you gave birth. When did you shoot this movie?
A: I was pregnant. I was about 15 weeks pregnant when we started the movie.

Q: So was it difficult for you to play a role of a drunk?
A: The spacyness came to me like that but I think my pregnancy might have added a layer to my performance in this one because I was so happy all the time and I just felt a great joy and I loved the idea that was in Gloria. She wasn’t depressed, she was a party girl and she always brought the fun in. I think my baby did that too!

Q: There were some physicality involved, were you mindful of the path that you were on along with the director. How did you take pains to safeguard you?
A: You know I am gung-ho performer. I am always happy to throw myself in there to get hit or bruised or anything, I don’t really care that! But in this one, it wasn’t just me I was looking out for. We broke the fight plan very slowly, we did it piece by piece and I just tried my best just not to fall!

Q: Colossal deals with some heavy material but also manages to stay humorous, without making strike of difficult situations. How hard was it to strike that balance?
A: Well I think, I know why I responded to script. Because there were moments where just everything fell apart. It just feels so surreal and it’s simultaneously tragic and sometimes hysterically funny at the same time! How unbelievable it is! And you are right there is some heavy stuff in this movie. And I think because the humanity of the characters is also suspected doing terrible things to themselves or may be to other people. I think it never becomes irresponsible while treating the character without life or never making light of these scenarios. Well, having light touch. And so all that was on the page. I had great faith in Nacho and in Jason, they’ll be able to do that. Ya it was a lovely bubble experience, where everything came together really well. And if one thing came off, then I think whole thing would have fallen apart. But I think everything just worked out!
