Hollywood star and stunt expert Jackie Chan will arrive in India on January 23 to promote his upcoming action-adventure-comedy, Kung Fu Yoga, which features Indian artistes including Sonu Sood, Disha Patani and Amyra Dastur in key roles. Apart from hosting a grand celebration for his superstar friend on his arrival, Sonu, who is the distributor of the film in India, has decided to organise a unique programme next month, as part of promotions.
The actor will fly in Jackie Chan’s seven-member stunt team from Bejing to conduct martial arts workshops in India. As per popular notion, an Indian Buddhist monk is said to have played a key role in founding China’s Shaolin monastery, which is famous for its Kung Fu-trained monks. Sonu believed that a martial arts exchange programme would be interesting. “I want them [Chan’s team] to teach martial arts enthusiasts in India newer techniques and modern forms,” said the actor, who was impressed with the nimbleness of Jackie’s team when he spent several months in the foreign country filming his Chinese outings -- Xuan Zang and Kung Fu Yoga. Sonu informs that the workshops will be open to the general public, adding, “So far, the plan is to host it only in Mumbai. We may organise a multi-city tour if time permits.”
The stuntmen will reach the city by next month-end and will stay put till mid-March. Sonu will work out the logistics post the film’s release early next month.
