‘Amicable exes’ is no longer an oxymoron. And these Hollywood relationships are a proof of that

Hollywood is not new to hook-ups and splits, and the drama surrounding them, both onscreen and off it. Unlike in the movies, real-life breakups tend to leave certain amount of bitterness that run beyond 90 minutes. But, there are a few exceptions where even after going their separate ways, the two ex-flames have managed to remain friends. Case in point, Chris Brown and Rihanna. Last week, in an interview, while discussing his decision to belt out a rendition of RiRi’s hit Bitch Better Have My Money at a concert, the Loyal singer confessed that he still ‘loves’ her.

“She’s my homie though. We knew each other since we were 14, 15. So with that kind of history, we are always going to be cool. I don’t get jealous. I don’t get mad. I got nothing but love and respect for her,” the rapper said. A few days back, it was also reported that Chris has confided that RiRi is willing to stand by him in court as he fights a bitter custody battle with Nia Guzman, the mother of his daughter, Royalty. The Barbadian beauty also sent Chris and Royalty a pair of matching diamond earrings. Chris and RiRi are not the only inhabitants of this new world of ‘amicable exes’. Here are a few more celebs who share such aww-inducing relationships with their former lovers.
Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake
A lot has changed since Diaz and Timberlake called it quits in 2006 after four years of dating — Diaz married guitarist/vocalist Benji Madden in January this year, while Timberlake became the proud father of Silas Randall Timberlake with wife Jessica Biel in April — but the two managed to stay in touch. Following the separation, the couple was seen promoting Shrek 3 together, in which they had both lent their voices. The duo also worked together in the 2011 film, Bad Teacher. When asked about the experience of working with her ex-flame, she had then said, “It really wasn't a big deal, we had a great time and did the job, and we do what all actors do afterward: We all go our separate ways.” Also, while promoting Bad Teacher, the actress had confessed she would always love Timberlake. “Justin and I had a journey together and still do. It changed, but I’m fine with that and so is he. I will always love the man in so many different ways,” she had explained.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin
The couple might have ‘consciously uncoupled’ in March 2014 after being married for 11 years, but the two have been great friends ever since. They have been spotted catching up for lunch, taking a stroll on the beach and also on a vacation at the Bahamas with their kids, Apple (aged 11) and Moses (aged nine). Few days after the split, Paltrow had told a magazine that her friendship with Martin was the “relationship they were meant to have.” Martin, on his part, in another interview said, “We’re friends and proud parents. There’s lots of love, and that’s it.”
Courteney Cox and David Arquette
When their decade-long marriage went kaput, many were shocked. However, the now-divorced couple has remained extremely supportive of each other and was evidently having a good time when they came together to promote the fourth installment of Scream in 2011. In addition to being co-stars, they also own a production house titled Coquette (founded in 2004). In early 2013, on being asked about her relationship with David she had said: “I appreciate David more now than I ever did. I don’t recommend divorce in general, but you know, he is my best friend and we’ve both grown and changed and I think we both appreciate each other more.” David, voicing similar sentiments had said: “It really was a goal of ours to not make it a fight, to really support each other and although we’d grown apart to stay connected, to stay friends, to still love each other. I still obviously feel so blessed that I met her and that we have a child together and that she’s in my life.”
Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom
Their split, though widely written about, is touted as one of the most amicable ones in Hollywood history. The couple announced their separation in October 2013, just three years after their marriage. However, even post split, the pair, who has a 4-year-old son together, managed to maintain a friendly relationship. Time and again, they have been spotted together chatting, smiling and exchanging kisses. Orlando has always maintained that even post split, they are like family to each other, “We’re going to be in each other’s lives for the rest of our lives… and we’re professionals, and we love and care about each other. And we, most of all, love our son,” he had said in a 2013 interview, and over the past two years, little has changed in his stance.
Demi Moore and Bruce Willis
They tied the knot in 1987 and divorced 13 years later. However, the couple stuck to their decision of co-parenting their three daughters - Rumer, Scout and Tallulah - together. The two are considered to be very close to each other - so much so that at a point of time rumours of a possible reunion also did the rounds. Since their divorce, Willis and Moore have been by each other’s side through highs and lows. Bruce even attended Moore’s wedding to Ashton Kutcher and stood by her during her rehab stay in 2013. Most recently, Bruce was spotted at Moore's house the day after the body of a 21-year-old was found in the actress’ swimming pool. Moore too has been snapped with Bruce and his wife, Emma Heming, at various red carpet events. The couple was also spotted enthusiastically cheering their daughter Rumer, on the set of Dancing With the Stars.
