"It's not enough to look closely at the cheque for Rs 75 lakh or Rs 1 crore. A hero should instead look closely at the script before signing on a film," he remarked.
He said he was horrified to hear that Kannada films had to be pulled out of theatres just three days after their release in certain centres because they failed to draw the crowds. "It's the hero who is responsible for such a disastrous situation," he said.
He alleged that senior producers were getting a raw deal from the stars. "No young hero wants to give us a call sheet. Despite a string of flops, many heroes demand astronomical fees. They don't analyse their box office failures. No wonder the industry is in the doldrums," he thundered at the audio release of Cheluvina Chilipili at Renukamba theatre in Malleswaram.u00a0u00a0
According to Dwarakeesh, the industry is in desperate need of revival.u00a0 "Forget growth, we are in need of survival strategies," he said wryly.
